Tonse Alliance Deep-Rooted Tribalism Exposed

The Editor Zambia

The deep-rooted tribalism in the Tonse Alliance has been exposed following the released composition of Brian Mundubile’s presidential campaign team and secretariat staff.

The over 45 national presidential campaign and secretariat teams released on Saturday are dominated by northerners. Only five members are from Eastern and Western provinces.

The campaign team, comprising of Patriotic Front (PF) assembled from the one region, has sent shockwaves and fears through the political arena that the same individuals who were kicked out in 2021 have regrouped.

Mundubile has shown that he is bringing back the rejected divisive and tribal politics.

Some high-profile Tonse Alliance partners have expressed worry at the assembling of individuals from one region. The main object is to secure national leadership at any cost. The development threatens unity in the alliance.

Meanwhile, the PF/Pamozi Alliance has expressed concern and cried foul that their leader, Makebi Zulu, has been sidelined.

An inside source disclosed that neither Makebi Zulu’s running mate nor his key campaign team members appear on the Brian Mundubile appointed national campaign team and secretariat.

The source said Mundubille has more power than any other Alliance member.

The pomposity of Mundubile can clearly be seen by everyone, threatening that they have no option but to walk out if they feel betrayed.

The Makebi Zulu-led Pamodzi Alliance deserves respect. It’s not easy to allow someone else to be the presidential candidate when you also have ambitions.

Analysts have warned that individuals attempting to use tribal identity as a gateway to the leadership should not be tolerated and entertained.

Some leaders were attempting to leverage their ethnic backgrounds for political advancement.

Over the weekend, Brian Mundubile released a 45 national presidential campaign team and the secretariat for this August’s general elections.

The team, comprising mostly former PF members, only contains people from the Northern region with only three names from Eeastern province and 1 from western province.

The appointment of presidential campaign and secretariat team has uncovered the deep-rooted tribalism in Tonse Alliance.

Commentators say the Tonse Alliance should come out clean and condemn tribalism in the alliance. If not stopped, it could< land the country into a serious tribal conflict.

Zambians have been urged to reject and strongly condemn politicians using divisive and defamatory campaign messages ahead of the August 2026 general elections.

Zambians should continue denouncing politicians without tangible messages and stay away from candidates who use defamatory messages, tribal, discrimination, and personal attacks.

The use of tribal alignment is retrogressive and a threat to national cohesion.
