OUTING Mandevu Member of Parliament Christopher Shakafuswa has ignited a fresh political storm with explosive revelations that dramatically reverse a narrative that has dominated public debate surrounding the burial of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
For weeks, some Patriotic Front (PF) figures and their allies have publicly accused President Hakainde Hichilema of being behind the prolonged burial process for what they described as ritualistic or political reasons.
However, Shakafuswa, himself a former PF Lusaka Province chairman and a figure who travelled to South Africa during the initial funeral arrangements, has now revealed that the accusations directed at President Hichilema were a smokescreen designed to conceal satanic activities within the PF circles.
Speaking on the controversy, Shakafuswa has revealed that secret meetings were held around the handling of the former president’s remains and that certain PF leaders were acting on advice from traditional practitioners to use the body for ritualistic purposes.
According to Shakafuswa, those who have spent months accusing President Hichilema of seeking political advantage from the delayed burial should instead explain what he describes as the real forces influencing decisions behind the scenes.
His revelations strike at the heart of the narrative promoted by PF lawyer Makebi Zulu and other party figures like Brian Mundubile, who have repeatedly blamed the Head of State for the failure to conclude burial arrangements.
Shakafuswa has revealed that various predictions were made by individuals advising PF leaders among them that President Hichilema would allegedly die within seven days if he did not view the body of the late president.
He has further revealed that another witchdoctor’s prediction was that death would befall the President if arrangements involving the transportation of the body proceeded in a particular manner.
Most controversially, Shakafuswa has revealed that some PF leaders were persuaded that retaining control over the burial process would somehow improve the party’s prospects in the August 13 elections.
Political observers note that the latest revelations appear to support long-standing concerns raised by many Zambians who have questioned whether the burial impasse has been driven entirely by family considerations.
Former Kaputa independent PF Member of Parliament Given Katuta has previously suggested that the delays had little or nothing to do with President Hichilema and more to do with the influence being exerted over members of the Lungu family by political actors.
The controversy has also revived discussion about the role of superstition and unconventional beliefs in PF politics.
Many have recalled the late President Michael Sata’s widely publicised fixation with bald-headed men, a subject that frequently generated headlines during his presidency.
Sata repeatedly made controversial remarks about baldness both at home and abroad, including comments at an African Union gathering that attracted criticism and embarrassment from fellow leaders.
His tendency to associate political commentary with unusual personal beliefs remains one of the most memorable aspects of his public persona and serves as a reminder that superstition and symbolism have often found their way into the country’s political discourse.
Shakafuswa’s revelations now threaten to place PF leaders under intense scrutiny. Critics argue that if party officials have spent months accusing others of satanic misconduct while engaged in extraordinary rituals over Lungu’s body themselves, it raises serious questions that must be answered.
For many Zambians, the most troubling aspect of the entire saga is not merely the political finger-pointing but the possibility that the burial of a former Head of State may have become entangled in partisan calculations.
As the nation continues to await closure on one of the most sensitive chapters in its recent history squarely hinged on the Lungu family and PF leaders using the body for satanic purposes, Shakafuswa’s revelations have shifted attention away from State House and back toward those who have been among the loudest voices in the dispute.
PF leaders like Makebi Zulu and his ally Brian Mundubile should stop fooling Zambians and the Lungu family on their interest in Lungu’s body.
