The level of entitlement shown by the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ), asking the government to consult them before issuing an advert for health worker recruitment, is baffling.
The demand by the RDAZ demanding that the government consults them before advertising health worker positions is not just perplexing but downright disrespectful. 
This sense of entitlement from a group that’s meant to serve the people is mind-boggling.
The government has a duty to create jobs, and it shouldn’t be held hostage by a group of doctors who think they are above authority.
The RDAZ should desist from arm-twisting government by being confrontational. The doctors have chosen to politick over the recruitments of health workers even before the advert for the recruitment has come out in the press.
There is absolutely no law that compels or obligates the Civil Service Commission to engage RDAZ when recruiting health workers.
The government consults out of courtesy. It’s not an obligation. Therefore, the association should stop exaggerating and acting outside its mandate.
The recruitment clearly states that health worker recruitment and not doctor’s recruitment!!
Doctors and other health workers such as nurses, pharmacists, biomedical scientists, laboratory technicians, morticians, and others are all important in the health sector.
The recruitment is not politically motivated. It was provided for under the 2026 National Budget. The RDAZ is causing unnecessary panic in the sector.
This is a professional body and should behave like one. The antagonistic approach towards government is not right.
Since when did employers start engaging employees of who should be employed?
The levels of entitlement by the RDAZ should be checked. The association should leave the professional human resource specialists to work without due influence from the association.
The government is recruiting 2,600 health workers across the country. The nationwide recruitment covers various health sector cadres to strengthen the public health system.
