The same naysayers who once claimed President Hakainde Hichilema would never become president are now the primary voices asserting he will lose the August 13, 2026 general election.
These critics and political clowns have continued to peddle the same narrative despite the many achievements the president has achieved in the first five years in office.
These political hoodlums through their propaganda platforms sponsored by tribal elements in the opposition want to downplay the millstone president Hichilema government has achieved so far.
This narrative is largely driven by the same opposition figures, tribalists and disillusioned commentators who wanted to use the drought induced load-shedding as reasons for his anticipated defeat
This is the same group that de-campaigned and never voted for Hakainde Hichilema in the 2021 general elections.
Some critics, criticize president Hichilema not out of principle but it’s out of jealous and envy for the person they never imagined will rule this beyond there expectations.
President Hichilema inherited a contracting economy at -2.8%, this was despite PF inheriting a robust economy growth at 5.6% in 2011.
By 2021, the country was in sovereign debt default with depleted reserves. The fiscal deficit widened, public debt exceeded 120% of GDP, and growth turned negative meaning the economy was shrinking, not expanding.
These are the same people who want to speak the loudest. They ruined down a robust economy inherited from the MMD in 2011, borrowed reckless like headless chickens without any repayment plan.
President Hichilema employed a robust recovery plan to turnaround the economy and record growth recovery of 3.1% in 2022 and 3.8% in 2024 despite a historic drought.
President Hichilema has overseen macroeconomic stabilization and economic reforms, with the International Monetary Fund projecting GDP growth to reach 6.8% in 2026.
Inflation has dropped to 6.6%, marking the lowest since February 2018 and extending the slowdown to a fifth consecutive month and the Zambian Kwacha has seen notable stabilization against convertible currencies.
Despite this gain, the naysayers have not seen anything positive in the UPND government and president Hichilema.
There is nothing positive there are bringing to the table, there only interest is to loot the country resources with impunity.
There are tribalist that hate the incumbent just because of where he comes from. They also employed keyboard warriors all over social media that had connections from the previous regime and benefited from looting of public money.
This are the same crop of politicians who were ululating when thieves normalized illicit financial flows at the expense of national development.
The same criminals have regrouped and busy saying the country should go back to PF or Tonse Alliance? Come back to do what exactly? To collapsed the economy to -2.8% and leave the country in debt default again?
Zambians cannot bring PF/Tonse Alliance surrogates to mess up the economy again. Zambians learnt their lessons.
The country needs to build on the macro-economic gains it has achieved so far.
