Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe has organised some pro- Alick Banda Catholic priests and members to protest against the government and Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC)’s decision to summon the Lusaka Archdiocese Bishop for questioning in a matter he is alleged to have received a public property without following procedure.
M’membe, who was recently chosen as the opposition United Front flag bearer in the 2026 presidential elections, has been holding dark corner meetings with some Catholic priests and member to cause chaos on Monday, the day Archbishop Banda is scheduled to attend to his call- out the DEC.
Socialist Party members and some embattled Patriotic Front (PF) will also join the protest, which is aimed at disrupting the interview and cause anarchy.
As early as last night, M’membe held a meeting with PF members asking them to join the protest. The meeting resolved that the female participating political cadres will wear Catholic branded chitenje wrappers and shirts for male participants.
The meeting also discussed the need to have a choir, which will be singing sorrowful songs. M’membe pledged to organise the vanacular choir from St.
Peter parish in Garden Compound.
Meanwhile, M’membe has confirmed through his Facebook post that he will escort Bishop Alick Banda to the DEC on Monday.
He called on all Catholic Church members to turn up in large numbers.
