THE late republican president Edgar Chagwa Lungu was not a government property. This is according to the late President’s family.
The family allegedly refused to engage the government in the funeral preparations of the deceased leader.
According to close family members, the former first lady Esther Lungu and her children agreed not to involve the government in the funeral arrangement of the late former republican president.
The family has since appointed Lusaka lawyer Makebi Zulu as a family spokesperson. Mr. Zulu is expected to, among other things, inform the government of the family’s position.
The former first lady is expected to return home from South Africa, where her husband died from an unknown illness.
It is reported that upon her arrival, the former first lady will go straight to the Patriotic Front (PF) secretariat where members of the ruling party are gathering to mourn their leader.
It is further reported that the family is engaging the Catholic Church to take over the responsibility of funeral preparations.
