The Tonse Alliance’s claims that the United Party for National Development (UPND) wants to rig the Kawambwa by-elections are baseless.
The opposition alliance is anticipating a crushing defeat in its alliance partner PF stronghold.
Sean Tembo, alliance spokesperson, has made startling allegations against the ruling party.
Tembo claims that UPND officials and senior government officials have bought National Registration Cards (NRCs) and Voters Cards from eligible voters in Kawambwa constituency at K100 per voter.
According to him, these documents are allegedly kept at a designated house near a polling station, and voters are instructed to collect them on polling day before casting their ballots.
Tembo further alleges that the UPND’s planned rigging scheme involves bribing opposition polling agents and election monitors with K300 each.
He says during the vote-counting process, opposition polling agents and election monitors will reportedly be asked to leave the polling station, allowing UPND officials to tamper with ballots cast in favor of the Tonse Alliance candidate, Danstan Mwansa.
Tembo has spent four weeks campaigning for the National Congress Party candidate Danstan Mwansa in Kawambwa and has concluded that the opposition cannot win the elections with Sports Minister Evils Nkandu leading the campaign in the area.
