Lusaka City Council-LCC Fire Brigade under the Department of Engineering has attended to a total of 491 fire incidents and fire related occurrences in the last three months.
The Council is therefore concerned about the escalating number of fire incidents, with the recent occurrence being at Yoyo Factory at Plot No. 5249 Umuzilikazi road, at heavy industrial area in Lusaka yesterday.
The fire incident at Yoyo Factory was reported by the workers at around 12:26 Hours yesterday and due to the magnitude of the fire, Lusaka City Council-Fire Brigade promptly combined efforts with Zambia Army, Zambia Police, Zambia National Services and Zambia Air Force and successfully extinguished the fire at around 13:00 Hours.
The source of fire and the damage caused is yet to be determined.
The Local Authority has established that the common sources of fire incidents in the city are of electrical origins, charcoal braziers, lighted candles, welding and motor vehicle brake binding activities, among others.
The Council is therefore urging members of the public including business owners to ensure that they take serious preventative measures to avoid fire incidents in the city.
