The Engineering Institution of Zambia-EIZ has disclosed that through its engagement with the Road Development Agency-RDA, an independent engineer has been contracted to monitor construction of the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway.
EIZ president Wesley Kaluba says it was concerning that works on the project were advancing without an independent engineer and that this caused doubts on the credibility of the works being carried out.
Engineer Kaluba is however displeased that the independent engineer is coming at a time that the project has already progressed, making it difficult to approve the work already done. And engineer Kaluba says instead of having one independent engineer for the whole project, there should at least be one engineer per lot to guarantee availability on site throughout the construction period.
Recently, the RDA updated the nation that at least 14 percent of the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway and over 70 percent of the Fisenge bypass had been done but some stakeholders expressed concern that the project was progressing without independent local engineers on site, bringing questions around accountability in case of shoddy works.
