𝐂𝐌𝐂 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐘𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐄.

Chongwe Municipal Council today stands proud to be among the very few if not the only Local Authority in the country to open a Recyclable Collection Center (RCC).

Chongwe District Commissioner Dr. Evans Lupiya officially opened the Local Authority owned RCC at a colorful occasion organized by CMC’S Public Health Department.

Speaking during the event,Dr. Lupiya congratulated the Local Authority and it’s partners for the initiative adding that this has the potential to inspire and engage the youths by equipping them with knowledge and skills that are necessary to become responsible and environmentally conscious citizen.

Dr. Lupiya said that the center will be a hub for innovation and education which will empower the residents to take an active role in reducing their carbon footprint and promote the principles of the circular economy.

He was speaking in a speech read on his behalf by Chongwe District Administration Officer Mr. Kelvin Ndandanda.And CMC’s Director of Public Health Mr. Mumba Kaoma implored the public to make use of the newly launched facility in waste recycling and ensuring that waste management is effectively implemented across the district.

He added that this initiative will further help in reducing the indiscriminate disposal of potentially recyclable materials, prevent pollution and also economically empower the local communitiesas they engage in waste collection.

Chongwe Central Ward Councillor Mr. Thomas Sakala and Headman for Libuko Village also commended the local authority and reiterated their support for the initiative towards a sustainable waste management system.
