Thousands of Mazabuka residents flooded the main street, abandoning their daily schedules, to catch a glimpse of a massive cold box unit.
The spectacle drew huge crowds along the Great North Road, stretching from Kaleya Station through Kabobola, Apollo Nakambala compounds, and Nakambala Bridge. For over three hours, residents marveled at the enormous cold box as it made its way through the district.
The crowd’s excitement was palpable, with some even escorting the unit out of Mazabuka via the Kaonga bypass road, rejoining the Great North Road at Dennis Block factory.
Police officers had a challenging time controlling the crowds, who were eager to take pictures of the cold box unit.
To ensure a smooth passage, a combined team of police officers, Road Transport and Safety Agency (RATSA) officers, council officers, Zamtel, and ZESCO officials were on hand. Many residents expressed delight, describing the experience as a lifetime achievement.
The cold box unit, measuring 64 meters in length, 5.7 meters in width, and 7.2 meters in height, is one of the largest loads ever transported on Zambian roads.
Currently en route to Solwezi in North Western Province from Katima Mulilo border, the abnormal load will make a brief stop just before Munali Hills and resume its journey tomorrow morning at 06:00 hours.
