Opposition Tonse- Pamodzi Alliance leader Brian Mundubile’s recent remarks on Zambia National Service (ZNS)’s Eagle Milling brand exposes his lack of basic knowledge required of a national leader.
Mundubile alleged that the Eagle Milling company under the ZNS is an illegal entity being managed by the United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres.
Mundubile’s pronouncements on Hot FM radio’s breakfast programme and many of his uncoordinated comments during his campaign trial prove that he is unsuitable for the presidency.
His remarks demonstrate his lack of understanding of fundamental governance and economic principles.
Mundubile has anchored his campaign on falsehoods rather than factual policy alternatives and hatred. He is failing to recognise government’s achievements attained so far.
Firstly, Mundubile has lied that the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act was introduced by the UPND when, in fact, not. The truth is that this piece of legislation was introduced and enacted by the PF administration.
As Chief Government Whip, Mundubile, on March 29, 2021, justified the enactment of the cyber security bill, saying it was inevitable to curb abuse of the cyber space.
Mundubile and his raw running mate, Makebi Zulu, further lied to the Zambian people that it was the PF government that introduced free education!
Citizens are wondering and asking questions. Where and when did the PF government make this decision? Which schools were offering free education during the PF rule? When did the then, minister of education David Mabumba launch the free education policy?
Contrary to Mundubile’s claims, the free education policy is a UPND baby, and it is clearly prioritised in the ruling party manifesto. The policy was implemented by President Hakainde Hichilema.
Without shame or verification, Mundubile went on a radio programme to spread falsehoods that the Eagle Milling is an illegal entity operated by UPND cadres.
According to Mundubile, the milling company whose mealie meal has become a household name due to its affordability is an illegal product.
The ZNS is a vital wing of the Defence Forces mandated by the ZNS Act to train citizens, enhance national food security, develop socio-economic infrastructure, and execute military operations.
Political analysts have questioned how a presidential candidate wishing to become Republican president can question the mandate of ZNS and describe its key operational pillar as illegal.
National food security and agriculture are key pillars of ZNS. The ZNS is currently spearheading large-scale agricultural production to stabilise food supplies and promote economic growth.
The Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance candidate is finding it difficult to conduct issue-based campaigns, rooted in truth and verifiable facts, because he has no alternative policy, let alone credit to his name.
Mundubile has no clear plan for Zambia. This is the reason why he finds it difficult to craft messages that can win him votes.
Analysts have concluded that Mundubile’s engagement in misinformation to try and win votes will not help him gain traction needed to push for victory.
Zambians will judge candidates based on their policies, credibility, and record of governance rather than false campaign narratives.
Zambians will remember that in 2019, President Edgar Lungu flagged off the commencement of the construction of 13 milling plants in various districts across the country under the presidential milling plants initiative.
President Lungu had indicated that under phase one of the project, three milling plants would be constructed, including the one earmarked for the University of Zambia Agricultural Technology demonstration Centre.
The other two were earmarked for Monze district in Southern province and Mpika district in Muchinga province.
The UNZA Milling Company was later handed over to ZNS after UNZA failed to manage it.
Mundubile would do well to check his facts before going on the anthill to misinform the public.
From threatening civil servants with massive dismissals should he form government, it has now become dangerous and worrisome that Mundubile’s lies have reached alarming levels.
