The Editor Zambia
In Zambia, it is a taboo and a sign of disrespect to use the dead person’s personal assets or belongings before the proper administration process begins after burial.
Makebi Zulu is going round positioning himself to take over leadership of the Patriotic Front (PF), even before its leader, the Edgar Lungu, is buried.
Makebi, who is the Lungu family spokesperson has abandoned his responsibility to speak for family. He has, instead a political campaign to take over the leadership of the former ruling party from Lungu whose body is still in mortuary.
We have taken time to listen to Makebi, reacting to President Hakainde Hichilema’s press conference on Tuesday.
According to Makebi, Zambia needs a leadership that responds decisively to crises and one that avoids politicised national addresses.
He accuses President Hichilema of using hateful and divisive language, saying the country needs unity, not division. Makebi added that Zambia is bigger than any individual and stronger than any political disagreement.
Makebi is the immediate past Mambwe Constituency losing member of parliament and served as Eastern Province minister in the previous government.
Makebi has forgotten that Hakainde Hichilema’s government has restructured the careless and reckless debt borrowed by his government.
Makebi has also forgotten that this government is paying arrears in unpaid fuel invoices amounting to over 750 million dollars his previous administration left.
Makebi has forgotten that this government has paid Maamba Energy a whooping 413 million dollars and an additional 70 million outstanding electricity debt to Mozambique’s State-owned energy firm, EDM (Electricidade de Moçambique).
Makebi has forgotten that the meal allowances and bursaries his government removed form university students where restored by President Hichilema’s government.
Makebi has forgotten that his PF government defaulted on a US$42.5 million Eurobond payment which led to credit rating agencies to downgrade Zambia, with Fitch assigning a “Restricted Default” status and S&P Global classifying it as a “Selected Default”
The list is endless. Makebi is simply an ungrateful hater and tribalist.
Makebi should be the last person to speak on quality leadership. He should be the last to talk about Zambia being bigger than any individual, considering his conduct after the death of former president Lungu.
What national interest is Makebi taking about?
Makebi chose to politick with the funeral of the late former president for his own selfish political ambitions, rather than prioritising the national interest he is claiming to champion today.
Did Makebi listen to the voice of Zambians, who called for the logical conclusion of the late sixth president?
