ZAMBIA’s economic recovery story is not one of luck. It is one of divine timing and disciplined leadership.
When President Hakainde Hichilema took over power in 2021, he inherited a country on its knees: an economy suffocating under reckless borrowing, institutions crippled by corruption, and a public service system that had become a feeding trough for political elites. 
The Patriotic Front (PF) government left behind more than just debt. They left behind a crisis of trust and national purpose.
It’s against that backdrop that President Hichilema’s leadership must be judged. He did not step into a thriving nation. He stepped into ruins built on greed and carelessness.
The same voices that today mock his methods were the architects of the collapse. They squandered Eurobond money on political vanity projects, inflated contracts, and patronage networks that enriched a few while impoverishing millions.
Those who gorged themselves on borrowed billions now have the audacity to sneer at fiscal discipline, the very medicine Zambia desperately needed.
Under President Hichilema, Zambia is experiencing something rare in modern African politics, order. He has restored credibility to a nation that had become synonymous with default.
The country is again seen as a serious partner in global finance and investment circles.
The restructuring of external debt is a task many deemed impossible, but under the UPND government, it was achieved through negotiation, patience, and integrity. That alone is proof of capable leadership, not political guesswork.
Beyond numbers, President Hichilema has brought dignity back to governance. Civil servants are being paid on time. Corruption is being fought with evidence, not slogans. Investors are returning, not because of political favors, but because they can finally trust Zambia’s direction.
Ordinary citizens are beginning to feel the effects of stability: falling inflation, consistent policy, and renewed hope for the future.
The critics shouting from the sidelines offer no alternative vision. They want to return Zambia to the days when national coffers were treated as campaign funds. When development was measured by how much one stole, not how much one built. Their noise is not patriotism. It’s panic.
They know that a stable, disciplined Zambia under President Hichilema exposes their failures beyond repair.
Let’s be clear: Zambia didn’t need another politician. It needed a reformer with a backbone. President Hakainde Hichilema is that man. He has weathered slander, sabotage, and impatience, yet he stays the course because he knows the end goal is not applause but transformation.
In the grand scheme of history, some leaders come to lead rallies; others come to rebuild nations. President Hichilema came to rebuild Zambia. For that, Zambians can only conclude that this is not merely politics; it’s providence. ?”God gave Zambia the right man at the right time.”
