A cartel of unknown politically exposed individuals is reportedly cultivating cannabis in Chifwema, near Kafue, in Chieftainess Nkomesha Chiefdom.
The cartel has recruited local youths, leading to internal conflicts and violent disputes in the area.
According to impeccable sources in the area, a dispute over money sharing erupted recently, resulting in one youth being brutally murdered. The victim had his body cut into pieces and later burnt to ashes. 
It is reported that politically exposed individuals were deeply involved in this illicit activity and so many other large-scale cannabis cultivation in other areas. It is feared that the same cartel could be involved in other crimes to generate resources for their political campaigns.
The cannabis cultivation is a resource base to finance individual political mobilisation in readiness for 2026 general elections.
The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) is yet to locate the cultivation site, identify owners, and institute prosecution.
