ZAMBIA ON THE RISE: IMF APPLAUDS REFORM-DRIVEN RECOVERY

Zambia’s Finance and National Planning Minister, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, holds a high-level information exchange meeting with visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director General Nigel Clarke, in a continued show of international support for the country’s economic reform agenda.

Clarke’s visit follows that of IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in 2023.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dr. Musokotwane says the IMF’s support through the Enhanced Credit Facility Programme plays a critical role in Zambia’s economic turnaround.

He explains that the country is recovering from a debt-induced economic decline experienced between 2015 and 2021, with the economy now registering a 4 percent GDP growth rate in 2024 and projecting 6.6 percent growth in 2025.

Meanwhile, IMF Director General Nigel Clarke describes Zambia as a country endowed with abundant natural wealth and tremendous economic potential.

He expresses the IMF’s satisfaction in partnering with Zambia on its locally driven reform programme aimed at stabilizing and strengthening the economy.
