TONSE ALLIANCE LIES DISMISSED

By Jean Mwamba

State House has dismissed claims by the Tonse Alliance that proposed Constitutional amendments will remove the 50%+1 clause and extend the Presidential term to seven years

In response to claims, made by Tonse Alliance spokesperson Sean Tembo, State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka described the claims as ‘pure lies based on imagination and speculation.”

Mr. Hamasaka accused the Alliance of attempting to mislead the public and incite unnecessary panic through falsehoods. ‘This is a blatant attempt to create anarchy using fabricated lies,’ he said. ‘It’s essential for all Zambians to reject such misinformation and focus on facts rather than baseless political propaganda.

Mr. Hamasaka urged the opposition Alliance to wait for the official btief from the Ministry of Justice before debating the matter, noting that the proposed amendments have not yet been published in the government gazette.

Hamasaka had also accused the Alliance of trying to incite unrest by encouraging protests based on falsehoods spread by a propagandist currently enjoying coffee abroad.

“As the President has stated, stakeholders will be fully engaged throughout the process,” Mr. Hamasaka emphasized. “It’s impossible to amend a document as sacred and important as the Constitution in secrecy.”
