The Lusaka High Court has sentenced Nalukui Akafekwa to life imprisonment for the murder of 10-year-old Chikondi Banda.
The court has ruled that the state has proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to Akafekwa’s conviction.
The convict, a neighbor of the deceased from Garden Chilulu compound in Lusaka, killed the boy in a maize field behind Emmasdale Police Post after failing to secure a K12,000 ransom from the child’s family.
In frustration, he pushed the boy down and struck him on the head with a stone, causing his death.
The deceased’s decomposed body was discovered six days later, on March 16, 2023, with his head wrapped in a black plastic bag.
