The Citizen First Party National Youth Chairman, Maxwell Chongu, has accused Tonse Alliance leaders of being selfish and greedy.
Chongu stated that his party allowed the National Congress Party, a PF/Tonse Alliance member, to field a candidate in Kawambwa, hoping for reciprocity in other constituencies.
However, Chongu noted that the Tonse Alliance chose to field candidates in Pambashe and Petuake, to the surprise of other parties.
“In Kawambwa, we gave way to PF/Tonse Alliance, hoping they would reciprocate in Pambashe or Petuake. But to our surprise, they chose to field candidates in all the by-elections. Can you really blame us for going our way?” Chongu asked.
He questioned whether other parties should continue giving chances indefinitely. Tonse Alliance Chairman Edgar Lungu has been meeting with other opposition leaders to form a united front.
After losing the Kawambwa by-election, Lungu urged opposition parties to unite in defense of the country’s democracy. However, this effort has broken down, with other parties citing greediness.
