The Sikongo Town Council in Western Province has started disbursing payments to beneficiaries of the Cash for Work Program totaling 1.2 million Kwacha.
Two thousand and sixteen people are benefiting from the programme.
Sikongo Town Council Public Relations Officer SUSAN SAMULELA says the disbursement has been enhanced after the local authority engaged Zamtel to hasten the process.
Ms. SAMULELA says due to challenges with phone network, disbursement of the funds through banks was slow.
She said in a statement released to ZNBC News that the latest payment follows the Four million Kwacha disbursed for Cash for Work Program for August and September 2024.
She says since inception of the program in August, 2024, the Sikongo Town Council has engaged 5,000 individuals across all 14 wards of the district under the Cash For Work Program with each one receiving 600 Kwacha for 10 days of work.
