November 28,2024-Woodlands Traffic Police recorded a fatal Road Traffic Accident (RTA) today, Thursday, November 28,2024, at approximately 09:10 hours. The accident occurred at the junction of Mosi-O-Tunya and Nyatwa Roads in Lusaka.
Involved in the accident was a BMW motorbike, registration number ZP 3077, ridden by Sergeant Mike Mumba, aged 40, of State Lodge. He was riding from the South to the North direction when the collision occurred. Tragically, Sergeant Mumba sustained severe head injuries and passed away while receiving medical attention at MainaSoko Medical Centre. The motorbike was extensively damaged.
Also involved was a Toyota Allex, registration number ACT 6444, driven by Mr. Charles Tembo, aged 43, of Chilenje, Lusaka. He was driving from the North to the South direction and turning west into Nyatwa Road. Mr. Tembo complained of chest pains, headaches, and back pain following the accident. The Toyota Allexwas extensively damaged.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Allex turned right without exercising due care and attention, colliding with the motorbike, which had the right of way. The driver of the Toyota Allex has been detained and will be charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.
We urge all road users to exercise maximum caution and adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid such tragic incidents.
