Lusaka City Council-LCC Town Clerk Eng.Liftry Ndaba has announced plans by the local authority to engage in mass community sensitization on the importance of paying levies and all council dues.
Eng.Ndaba said that it is important for the general public to be sensitised on the importance of an expanded financial base for local authority as the proceeds generated from payment of levies is in turn used for service delivery within the City.
The Eng disclosed that Lusaka City Council-LCC will, in the near future, implement incentives such as public private partnerships and cashless services including discounts to encourage compliance by the public.
Mr.Ndaba highlighted these steps when he featured on a panel discussion whose topic was dabbed ; Strengthening fiscal sustainability for urban resilience: linking financial assessments to strategic outcomes.Other discussants who spoke along side the Town Clerk included Her Worship, the mayor of Lusaka , Ms.Chilando Chitangala, the Deputy Governor for Nairobi County His Excellency Mr.James Muchiri, Mr.Eshetayehu Kinfu , Head , Strategic programs management officer Addis ABBA City Administration.
Mr.Brian Simukoko from the ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the assistant director Ministry of Finance , Mr Desmond Banda also featured on the panel discussion.
Lusaka City Council-LCC with support from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa is working to find ways to improve its fiscal space and have it conform to the national goals of development.
This with, management and the technical working spearheading the United Nations Development Account Project are in Livingstone to review and validate the draft financial performance assessment report for Lusaka City Council.
The validation process is poised to give participants an opportunity to reflect on opportunities and challenges that boarder on the council’s ability to expand.
