Born to disabled parents, both of whom are blind, Kapaya faced numerous challenges throughout his education. Despite these hurdles, he persevered, completing his primary and secondary education with the help of sponsorships from NGOs.

Kapaya’s tertiary education was also marked by struggles, but he remained committed to his goal of becoming a nurse. With the support of organizations such as the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), Kapaya was able to complete his nursing training at the Mansa School of Nursing.

Tragically, Kapaya lost his father in 2021, just as he was completing his studies. Despite this devastating blow, Kapaya continued to push forward, volunteering at the Nchelenge District Hospital and later at St. Paul’s Mission Hospital.

Mr. Kapaya says unfortunately, his volunteering work does not provide a stable income, making it difficult for him to support his mother’s basic needs.

However, Kapaya’s greatest challenge now lies in providing for his mother, who relies solely on him for support.

Mr. Kapaya is calling on relevant authorities and stakeholders to consider him for employment as a nurse as it will enable him to provide a stable and secure future for his mother.

“I am eager to contribute my skills and experience to the healthcare sector, while also being able to support my mother,” Kapaya said.

Kapaya’s story is a testament to the human spirit’s capacity for resilience and determination. His achievements serve as an inspiration to others, demonstrating that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.
