Oliver Amutike, Member of Parliament for Mongu Central, has urged all Zambians to support President Hakainde Hichilema in the critical fight against corruption.

Amutike has described this fight as a lonely and dangerous journey, but essential for the nation’s future.

According to Amutike, corruption undermines development, erodes public trust, and deprives citizens of essential services. He emphasizes that by standing together, Zambians can create a more transparent, accountable, and prosperous nation.

In response to recent claims that President Hichilema’s anti-corruption efforts unfairly target individuals from Eastern and Bemba regions, Amutike clarified that the fight is objective, inclusive, and essential for Zambia’s progress.

He noted that President Hichilema’s administration has consistently demonstrated a commitment to combating corruption across all sectors and regions.

Amutike emphasized that the fight against corruption is not about targeting specific ethnic groups, but about ensuring accountability and justice for all Zambians.

Since taking office, President Hichilema has empowered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to operate independently and without political interference. Investigations have been conducted across various regions and sectors, targeting individuals based on evidence rather than ethnicity.

The UPND administration has implemented measures to increase transparency in government operations, including the publication of procurement processes and the establishment of mechanisms for whistleblowers to report corruption anonymously.

According to the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) by Transparency International, Zambia’s score improved by 4 points in 2023, reflecting the positive impact of the current administration’s anti-corruption measures.

Amutike explained that President Hichilema’s administration has pursued high-profile corruption cases involving individuals from various regions and political affiliations. This includes the recent forfeiture of assets worth millions of kwacha from individuals with unexplained wealth, demonstrating that no one is above the law.

Ultimately, Amutike emphasized that the fight against corruption is not about targeting specific groups, but about building a better future for all Zambians.
