All 41 community parks in lusaka to be revamped – Chitangala

Lusaka Mayor, Chilando Chitangala has announced the local authority’s intention to revamp all 41 community parks dotted across the city.

Ms. Chitangala made this announcement when she hosted students from Evelyn Hone, Nipa and Springfields academy for a tree planting exercise held to signify the revamping of Freedom Park in Kamwala ward.

The mayor indicated that councils play a custodian role in propelling urban greening and as such, the robust tree planting activities that her office is spearheading are not only aimed at countering deforestation but should serve as an example for all collaborating partners to take keen interest in restoring the earth.

She said that her office will work with all councillors in revamping the community parks in Lusaka adding that community parks not only help in giving the city a positive outlook but can serve as recreation facilities for citizens.

“My office has in the last few months planted a total of one thousand five hundred (1500) trees and with support from partners such as Zambia Sugar, IKOE foundation, you, the student populous and other partners, we intend to plant in excess of 10 ,000 trees in 2025,’’ remarked Ms Chitangala.

Ms. Chitangala also used the event to hail the Civic leadership and various partners for showing true commitment in the fight against Climate Change, adding that issues bordering on environment can be best fought with concerted effort.

And IKOE foundation Programs Lead, John Kang’ombe has reiterated his organization’s resolve to work with partners such as Lusaka City Council in disseminating information around Climate Change to the grassroots.

Kang’ombe indicated that the revamping of Freedom Park is a bold step that signifies green resilience, community wellness and heritage.

He said that through his organization’s Green Up Zambia and Environmentally based initiatives, his organization has enjoyed a great working partnership with the local authority, ranging from collective tree planting activities and information sharing on Climate Change adaption and mitigation.

Meanwhile, Kamwala ward 5 councillor, Mainda Simataa paid glowing tribute to the Nipa and Evelyn Hone students for taking interest in restoring the City’s beauty.

The passionate Kamwala Civic Leader assured students of continued partnership and support in the collective quest to restore normalcy.

Councillor Simataa expressed happiness that his ward has ranked first in the revamping process of community parks and has since promised to work closely with all well-meaning stakeholders in ensuring that the trees planted are nurtured.
