TONSE ALLIANCE A FAILED PROJECT- MULENGA

By lydia Tembo

The Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GDAZ) has labeled the Tonse Alliance as a deceptive initiative and failed project, aimed at misleading Zambians about its ability to address pressing economic challenges in the country.

Organisation Executive Director Elias Mulenga has expressed concern, asserting that opposition alliances in Zambia mirror the governance style of former President Edgar Lungu, whose tenure was marred by undemocratic practices and rampant corruption.

Mr Mulenga noted some similarities between the Tonse Alliance and Lungu’s administration, suggesting that the new political group is a mere rebranding of past failures. “The Zambian people have not yet healed from the consequences of Lungu’s regime, a time characterized by caderism, lawlessness, and widespread corruption,” he said.

Mr Mulenga also pointed out many of Lungu’s cabinet ministers who are currently facing criminal charges, casting a long shadow over the integrity of their new counterparts.

He criticized the opposition for allegedly attempting to manipulate voters ahead of the upcoming 2026 elections, warning that the public must remain vigilant against alleged deceptive tactics disguised as change. “Under various unregistered names like Uka and Tonse, these failed leaders are looking to mislead voters and reclaim power,” he added.
