Patriotic Front (PF) in Luapula province is taking disciplinary action against two of its MPs, Chitalu Chilufya (Mansa Central) and Simon Mwale (Nchelenge), for accompanying President Hakainde Hichilema to the Zambia Sugar Company’s 60th-anniversary celebrations in Southern Province.
Provincial Chairperson Francis Musunga considers this a betrayal of the PF party, which sponsored their elections, citing violation of the party constitution.
Musunga expressed disappointment, particularly with Dr. Chilufya, who benefited from PF by being appointed Minister of Health under President Edgar Lungu.Musunga accused Dr. Chilufya of opportunism, having defected from MMD to PF and now aligning with the ruling UPND.
Disciplinary Action Reasons:- _Betrayal of PF party_: Accompanying the president to an event without party approval- _Violation of party constitution_: Actions deemed contrary to PF’s values and principles- _Opportunism_: Dr. Chilufya’s past defection from MMD to PF and current alignment with UPNDMusunga urged remaining PF members to stand firm and rally behind Party President Lungu, looking ahead to the 2026 elections.
This development highlights the complexities of Zambian politics, where party loyalty and discipline override national interestThe outcome of this disciplinary action will likely impact PF’s unity and strategy for the 2026 elections.
