Division have deepened between Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu’s political parties as they break into individual party campaigns for their parliamentary candidates.

Wider cracks have emerged in the Tonse Alliance over the escalating disputes between the Resolute Party and NRPUP, triggering significant confusion ahead of this afternoon’s political rally.

Tensions have been cooking between the Resolute Party, led by Makebi Zulu, and the NRPUP, led by Brian Mundubile over the adoption of candidates.

According to information from the Tonse camp, the smiles you have been seeing from the two opposition leaders in public are cosmetic and artificial because the true situation in the camp is marked by treachery, deceit, and crookedness.

As a result of the treachery, the Tonse Alliance faces the prospect of internal sabotage eroding its electoral prospects in its perceived strongholds.

The two leaders have sharply differed over the parliamentary candidates they will introduce and endorse as an alliance at a rally today.

Earlier this week, the two parties failed to reconcile their differences at a meeting convened in Ndola

However, NRPUP candidates boycotted the meeting despite their presidential candidate endorsing it.

Their absence points to deeper strategic anxieties. NRPUP fears being compelled to withdraw its candidates at both parliamentary and local government to honour the initial agreement, which granted the Resolute Party first preference on the Copperbelt and in Lusaka.

Resolute Party camp feel betrayed, and have since decided to campaign for their party candidates.

This confusion has exposed the cracks and lack of trust between Mundubile and Makebi Zulu.

The conflict stems from both parties filing parliamentary candidates on the Copperbelt, a move that has triggered significant confusion, heightened tempers, and recent infighting.

Inside sources have revealed that Resolute Party Copperbelt provincial chairperson Emmanuel Mulenga has stopped campaigning for Brian Mundubile presidential ticket.

Mulenga is fearing ECZ sanctions, amid frustrations with Tonse Alliance leadership.

As Makebi Zulu begins to campaign for Resolute Party candidates on the Copperbelt, he is effectively denouncing the NRPUP candidates whose party ticket he is standing on.

This is in response to the NRPUP’s decision to report Resolute Party candidates to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) demanding its suspension for using Makebi Zulu regalia, at its campaign evens.

Analysts say Tonse Alliance candidate Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu cannot win the 2026 general elections because the two do not possess the minimum national character to command a national vote.

The Alliance has failed to field candidates in 72 constituencies across the country whilst the ruling UPND has parliamentary candidates in all 226 constituencies, with a number of candidates going through unposed.

Out of Zambia’s 226 parliamentary seats, the alliance has not fielded candidates in approximately 33% of the constituencies.

This leaves the camp to compete only in 67% out of the total seats and the national vote.

This literally means the Mundubile- led Tonse alliance does not have the national character.
