FORUM for Democracy and Development (FDD) spokesperson Anthony Chibuye
should stop intimidating Zambians who are calling on the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) to investigate criminal allegations against Brian Mundubile.
Zambians have every right to call for the prosecution of any individual, regardless of their status in society.
Chibuye’s suggestion that calls for criminal investigations against Mundubile are made in bad faith and out of fear of Mundubile’s growing popularity is misplaced.
Instead, the FDD spokesperson should support and join calls for such investigations so that Mundubile can be cleared of any wrongdoings as he fulfills his political ambitions to become president of Zambia.
The criminal allegations against Mundubile are not new. It is time that this matter is brought to a close by subjecting the opposition Tonse Alliance faction leader to investigation.
Two months ago, Patriotic Front (PF) sympathiser and presidential aspirant Chishimba Kambwili had a heated phone call exchange with one of Mundubile’s sympathiser, Kashishi, in which, Kambwili publicly called Mundubile a thief who should be jailed.
In that excahnge, Chishimba Kambwili maintained that Mundubile is a thief who should rot in jail.
Kambwili further alleged during the PF regime, Mundubile had gotten road construction contracts from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, which he never executed but got paid huge sums of taxpayers money.
Kambwili alleged that Mundubile presented fake invoices demanding payments for the works he never did.
“Bakabwalala abo mulelandapo abaleipela imisebo baletwala ama invoice ayabula ukubomba imilimo (those thieves you are talking about used to deliver invoices without doing any works on the road contracts they were giving to each other)” Kambwili revealed.
Kambwili told Kashishi to stop supporting a person who lives in a glass house and should therefore not throw stones.
The criminal allegations against Mundubile were started by PF members themselves. Kambwili alleged that he had all the evidence against Mundubile’s theft and threatened to expose the Tonse Alliance faction leader.
It is unfair for a party that is preparing itself to go into government to suggest that calls to investigate Mundubile on how he was awarded government contracts was a witch hunt.
It is wrong for Chibuye to say the calls for the investigation are made out of cowardice and fear of Mundubile’s political popularity.
Zambians are merely demanding accountability in the utilisation of public funds.
Instead of accusing Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa of targeting the Tonse Alliance president, the FDD should allow the LEAs to investigate and clear the matter.
Why is the FDD jittery? No one has said Mundubile is guilty. Not everyone who has appeared before the LEAs is guilty. It’s simply the due process of the law.
In 2014, the PF government wanted to work on the D769 Itezhi-Tezhi to Mongu Road junction. This road was last tarred in 1976, but it has since deteriorated because it lacked regular maintenance.
Build Trust Construction (Z) LTD was contracted to work on the same road. Mundubile is reported to be a shareholder in Build Trust Construction.
As of 2022, the road was not completed. There are few questions that need answers.
What happened to the project, and why was it left unfinished? What happened to the funds meant for the road to be upgraded? Was the contract with Build Trust Construction (Z) LTD properly procured?
Instead of claiming witch-hunt, let answers be provided to close this matter?
