Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

The Editor Zambia

Sean Tembo, leader of Patriots for Economic Progress (PEP) and Tonse Alliance ally, has dropped a bomb by declaring any presidential candidate associated with Patriotic Front (PF) senior leadership unfit to be voted President of Zambia.

Tembo has warned Zambians not to vote for any presidential candidate who previously held a senior position in the former ruling party in the upcoming August 13 elections.

Tembo said the impunity, abuse of State institutions, and lawlessness under the PF are things the country must never return to.

The opposition leader has gathered some courage to say what his fellow leaders in opposition politics have failed to say as they navigate their alliances.

“You will know them by their fruits,” a teaching from Jesus Christ in Matthew 7:16-20.

Beginning with verse 15, “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

  1. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.

A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

We give this biblical teaching to give context to this topic.

Zambians kicked out the PF government because it was a bad government. A corrupt government. A militia government, a tribalistic and nepotic government.

The PF is a group of dangerous and deceitful people who hide malicious, “ravening” intentions behind a harmless, gentle facade

There is nothing good that can come out from the same people who were kicked out of power for running the most corrupt enterprise.

Many citizens and analysts have expressed surprise and concern that some individuals continue to align with the former ruling party, which is associated with numerous corruption scandals, economic mismanagement, and violence reported during its time in power (2011–2021).

A European Union Observation Mission report singled out former Minister Chishimba Kambwili as the biggest culprit in terms of divisive and tribal talk prio to the August 12, 2021 poll. Kambwili was convicted and served jail sentence for his divisive tribal remarks.

The EU report observed that divisive tribal rhetoric was used by some high-profile campaigners as well as by ordinary PF members.

Political analysts have wondered how some people have found themselves in an alliance with a party known for thuggerism, corruption, tribalism, and nepotism.

The PF was a violent party with its militias moving with guns and machetes in public places terrorising innocent citizens.

Analysts agree with Tembo’s conclusion that “anyone who served in a senior position under the PF regime is not qualified to promise good governance today.”

Tembo stated that most of the lawlessness and abuse the country is currently experiencing is as the result of the PF regime.

Zambians removed the PF government because it was a bad government.
