Why is the Patriotic Front (PF) and the Edgar Lungu family dragging the Zambian government in matters involving the South African Police?
The matter at had was initiated by the South African State Forensic Pathology Services to conduct DNA tests and post-mortem examinations to determine the cause of death of the former sixth president of Zambia, Edgar Chagwa Lungu?
This follows claims by the PF themselves who alleged that the former Zambian Head of State was poisoned.
Reports of alleged foul play in the death of President Lungu were started by PF officials, who spoke on behalf of the Lungu family.
PF Secretary General Raphael Nakachinda addressed a media briefing in South Africa where he claimed that the family of President Edgar Lungu suspected foul play in his death.
Foul play in a human being’s death means the death was caused by way of criminality, illegal action, or violent acts, such as murder or manslaughter, rather than natural causes or by way of accident.
Some PF elements are now in high gear, claiming that the Zambian government wants to grab the remains of the former President from Two Mountains Funeral Services for unstated reasons.
Facts of the matter is that the South African Police Service SAPS has obtained a subpoena from the South African Magistrate’s Court for the Sub-District of Randburg, directing Mpho Mnisi of Two Mountains Funeral Services to release the body to State Forensic Pathology Services.
The SAPS wants to investigate the alleged foul play as claimed by Nakachinda and others in the PF and the Lungu family.
The alleged foul play or poisoning remarks were widely covered by international news organisations, including the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and many other media outlets in South Africa.
The story of the alleged poisoning
was repeatedly covered by Newsroom Africa TV station in South Africa and extensively quoted PF officials and the Lungu family.
The law has to take its course so that the cause of President Lungu’s death is determined.
At the same press briefing in South Africa, Nakachinda told the media that Lungu’s family wanted an independent specialist procedure to be conducted in order to establish the exact cause of death. It is in this spirit that the SAPS has decided to conduct DNA to ascertain the cause of death of the former Zambian President.
So, from this background, what has changed today? Why is the family scared to have an autopsy conducted on Lungu’s remains?
When former president Lungu died in a South African hospital, all manner of people were making wired statements and unfounded allegations.
To date, neither the PF nor the Lungu family has produced any medical report that shows the cause of death of the former Head of State. Why is the family not cooperating with SAPS? The Lungu family can appoint one or two relatives to oversee the post-mortem process?
Let the SAPS post-mortem process settle this matter.
