…amidst party turmoil
SOME leaders in the Tonse Alliance are plotting to install lawyer Makebi Zulu as chairman and 2026 presidential candidate ahead of August 13 general elections.
The move has escalated tension in the Alliance and Patriotic Front (PF) faction led by Given Lubinda. The development has
led to the party being kicked out of the alliance.
In the next few days, some alliance members are expected to hold a press briefing to endorse Makebi Zulu ahead of the planned convention.
According to inside sources, the move will be consolidated during a ceremoniously conference.
Just like we predicted, the Tonse Alliance was a Brought In Dead (BID) project. True to our prophecy, the much-talked-about alliance is crumbling.
The Given Lubinda led PF, which was the anchor political party in the alliance, has been kicked out of the alliance and ceases to be recognised as the anchor party.
The decision was arrived at after citing prolonged internal wrangles, court battles, and factionalism. The squabbles in the former ruling party have crippled the opposition grouping’s effectiveness ahead of the 2026 general elections.
However, the Given Lubinda PF has disowned resolutions of its expulsion allegedly made at a Tonse Alliance meeting.
Alliance chairperson Danny Pule abbounced the suspension of the PF from the alliance, but Lubinda described the gathering as illegal and unauthorised.
Meanwhile, Sean Tembo’s Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) has pulled out of the ‘ailing’ Tonse Alliance.
Tembo became the fourth leader and political party to leave the alliance after Peter Chanda’s NCP, UBZ headed Apostle Nsondo, left the alliance citing divisions.
Last year, Given Lubinda accused Tembo and Zumani Zimba of sowing confusion when the two called for the alliance council of leaders meeting without authority.
Later, Lubinda reported Zumani Zimba to police for cyber related crimes. Zimba was arrested and detained at the woodlands police station.
Zimba and Tembo differed when Tembo endorsed Brian Mundubile as a mature and favourite candidate in alliance.
Zimba is at the centre of coordinating all the clandestine moves in the alliance.
Sources say Makebi Zulu has started flexing his muscles to gain control of the PF using Danny Pule and other members of the central committee.
According to sources, Makebi Zulu was the closest person to the former Tonse Alliance leader Edgar Lungu and will not allow anyone to lead the alliance.
