PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Copperbelt chairperson Stardy Mwale has resigned from his party position
Mwale has also resigned from the party’s central committee, where he served as a member.
He cited undemocratic tendencies and single-handed decisions made by the party acting leader, Given Lubinda,
Mwale says Lubinda makes decisions without consulting party structures.
Many political analysts have said it several times that the PF under the leadership of Lubinda or Brian Mundubile, or Makebi Zulu, is dead. Imbattled with deep-rooted divisions, the former ruling party may not even manage to participate in 2026 general elections.
Zambians, including traditional rulers, have advised the former ruling party to bury its former leader, Edgar Lungu, before fighting to succeed him.
It would appear the PF leadership has chosen to be stubborn and ignore wise counsel from the church and others who have repeatedly called for unity in the former ruling party.
However, it is unreasonable for anyone to expect the PF to suddenly become disciplined and unite. The only thing the PF is known for, is violence.
Yesterday, Lubinda announced the expulsion of over 20 members of parliament who voted in favour of Bill 7.
The parliamentarians were expelled immediately after casting their votes in parliament, and Lubinda has maintained that the decision is irreversible.
Several PF members have wondered where Lubinda is getting the audacity to announce the expulsions when he has no such authority.
Legally, Mafinga PF MP Robert Chabinga is the only recognised leader of the PF.
This means that Chabinga is the only person who can make legal decisions on behalf of the party. Chabinga is the only person who can issue adoption certificates to PF members. Chabinga holds keys to the party.
Lubinda cannot give PF adoption certificates to candidates in an event of elections. This situation has resulted in the PF contesting on other political parties’ ticket.
Some analysts are agreeing with Tonse Alliance Member Sean Tembo who said that the PF is an indisciplined organisation that can not behave in a reasonable manner.
Tembo said, “since time immemorial, the PF has never been a disciplined organization, and it is unreasonable for anyone to expect it to become a disciplined organization overnight.”
Tembo added, “it is unreasonable for anyone to expect it to suddenly become disciplined and unite to defeat Bill 7. In fact, a key punchline that describes the PF, which my PF brothers tell me, Sata himself coined, is; ileyenda ilepya. Meaning “..it’s moving while it’s burning..”
Why is the PF still hurting and furious on its MPs and independents who voted for bill 7 in parliament?
Why are Emmanuel Mwamba, Miles Sampa, Given Lubinda and their surrogates hurting and attacking MPs for simply doing their legislative duty of passing laws?
The chapter has closed. The bill has been assented to. Bill 7 is now Law. This debate should now close and the country should move on.
Before the 2021 general elections, most of the Independent MPs in Parliament today, where member of the PF. They contested as Independents when the PF did not adopt them despite being popular on the ground in their respective constituencies.
The Patriotic Front should leave MPs alone. They performed their duty to pass bills.
The MPs studied the amendments and saw that it was a very progressive Bill that needed to be supported by any well-meaning Zambian.
The MPs look beyond partisan lines when passing bills. Their focus is on national character and public interest.
The Given Lubinda- led PF should learn to accept defeat in a democracy. Majority rules.
To attack MPs who enjoy the immunity in the House is uncalled for. Democracy is respecting views and opinions of those you don’t like – it is accepting the outcomes of democratic processes and outcomes.
Instead of hurting on MPs and accusing them of mistrust and treachery, the PF should introspect how they conduct themselves.
The Given Lubinda/ Mundubile PF should stop blackmailing the MPs because they will have difficulties campaigning in the constituencies where these MPs originate from.
Insulting MPs will not win the PF votes. Insulting MPs will not grow the PF numbers.
Being in the opposition does not mean opposing everything. When something is progressive like amendment Bill 7, people can argue about the process, but you cannot discard a good Bill simply because the process doesn’t meet your personal expectations.
In conclusion, Chabinga has a final say of what happens with the affected MPs. Lubinda is just hallucinating. He has no control over PF.
