… His criticism of the UPND Government’s achievements belong to the dust bin…
The anthill rantings of Harry Kalaba can not go without a comment.
Kalaba must have shame to even criticise the most hard-working president on Zambia’s history, followed by President Levy Mwanawasa.
Kalaba, who forcefully grabbed the Citizens First party from the owners after the founder the died, has the gutts with no shame to say the UPND government has “literally done nothing” since winning power in 2021.
Kalaba should also explain to Zambians why he was hounded out of the Democratic Party. We have information about his acts in Luanshya. This is a story for anther
But if “nothing” has been done or achieved, how does he account for:
1. The Revamping of KCM and Mopani
Can the revival of two multi-billion-dollar mining giants that had stalled for many years truly be called “nothing”?
If these mines employ thousands and anchor the entire Copperbelt towns’ economies, is their restoration irrelevant to national progress?
2. Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Expansion
Has the iPhone crazy politician visited any rural constituency to see the new schools, new bridges, new health posts, and boreholes built under the unprecedented K36.1 million CDF per constituency?
If infrastructure exists in plain sight, can one claim with intellectual honesty that “nothing” has been achieved?
3. Agricultural Market Challenges
If farmers are struggling to sell maize, should the blame rest solely on government—or should we also examine global grain prices, miller procurement patterns, and regional oversupply?
Has Kalaba conducted comparative study to past years when farmers were faced with the same issues, sometimes worse, under previous administrations?
4. Economic Conditions and Cost of Living
It’s wapped thinking for a politician worth of note to measure the government’s performance solely by cost-of-living pressures when these are heavily influenced by global fuel prices, fertilizer costs, and currency fluctuations beyond Zambia’s borders?
Has any government in Zambia’s history completely shielded citizens from international economic turbulence?
5. Debt Restructuring & Investor Confidence
Kalaba should learn to appreciate hard work and at least acknowledge the $6.3 billion debt restructuring deal that freed fiscal space for social spending?
Can a nation in economic collapse still attract foreign direct investment and see mining tax revenues grow? For Kalaba, his big eyes can’t see all these achievements. His ego is to criticize even where there is a need to. What a hypocrite. He resigned from Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s government on his perceived corruption in government, and yet, today, Kalaba sings saints for Edgar Lungu!
6. Logical Consistency
If the UPND has “only succeeded in failing,” as Kalaba wants to pretend, how does that square up with his and the opposition’s electoral performance in by-elections, ongoing IMF programme compliance, and visible project completions?
Is the statement “literally nothing” a factual assessment or a political exaggeration meant to score political points?
Ends…
