UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) media director Mark Simuuwe says the party has been consistent and instrumental in fulfilling its campaign promises to the people of the Copperbelt.
Mr Simuuwe cited the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway as a key example of improved linkage to Lusaka.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr Simuuwe said this stands in contrast to the previous Patriotic Front (PF) government, under which the same road was discussed for five years without any tangible action.
Mr Simuuwe said the UPND has also ensured that the road is being constructed at half the cost that the former regime had projected.
“President Hakainde Hichilema, while in opposition, described this road as crucial for economic development and said it could be done at half the price proposed by the PF government and that is exactly what has happened,” he said.
He added that the UPND government has transformed the Copperbelt through massive township road construction projects in various towns across the province.
Mr Simuuwe further said Zambia was in the “ICU” before the UPND took over from the previous government.
“We are now repairing what was damaged many years ago, because much of Zambia’s infrastructure was built under the UNIP government,” he said.
He noted that the Copperbelt has now returned to its status as a fully urbanized province because of the UPND’s efforts.
And commenting on the court’s decision to acquit former President Edgar Lungu’s Press Aide, Amos Chanda, who is now a UPND media consultant, Mr Simuuwe said the party had nothing to do with the acquittal.
