THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has revealed that 51 children under the age of 16 died out of the 342 casualties recorded in the first quarter of 2025.

RTSA director and chief executive Amon Mweemba said 115 children were seriously injured while 176 had minor injuries.

He said among the affected children, 218 were male while 124 were female, with the majority being pedestrians and passengers in a motor vehicle.

Speaking in Lusaka yesterday during the 2025 first quarter press briefing, Mr Mweemba further revealed that 8,809 road traffic accidents were recorded in the first quarter of this year country-wide, of which 410 were fatal, resulting in the deaths of 498 individuals.
