Government to mediate in Sakala, Kamanga and Grant standoff

SPORTS Minister Elvis Nkandu has revealed that government will step in to resolve the protracted dispute between striker Fashion Sakala, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga, and Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant.

The spat between Sakala, Grant and Kamanga yesterday hit a new level when the player publicly criticized the FAZ president, labeling him a dishonest man.

This was after Kamanga revealed that Sakala’s Chipolopolo teammates demanded the player make peace with them before returning to the squad.

Sakala has not played for Chipolopolo since January 21, 2024.

Speaking on Lusaka Radio’s Talk of The City program, Nkandu has said that while the mandate to solve the issue lies with FAZ, it has now become clear that the Government has to intervene and bring sanity.

“Now coming to the issue, even when I say that we don’t have an interest in that issue, but ultimately, an interest may come in where we would want to see results because we are putting in more resources.

“And if we know that Fashion can add that value to winning, definitely at one point, we may say, hey. What is happening? We have not done that yet because we allowed the processes to be finalized.

“But [after] these accusations, counter accusations that we have seen now, I think it is just important that we look at this issue as a government because the government spends money,” Nkandu said.
