“He is sick, mwana. Apa, it’s just management. People should not politicise this.” revealed the source.

There’s a discrepancy in the reports about former President Edgar Lungu’s health status.

Spokesperson for Tonse Alliance, Sean Tembo, who now appears to be Edgar Lungu’s self-appointed spokesperson, claims that the former head of State is merely undergoing tests in South Africa, and

Sean Tembo further claims the former President had missed his annual medical check-ups.

In contrast, the Ministry of Information and Media’s Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, stated that Mr. Lungu had completed chemotherapy and is now recuperating, awaiting further medical instructions.

To clarify the situation, the UPND has advised against politicising President’s health, urging respect for his privacy during this time.

Mark Simuuwe, the UPND party’s Media Director, emphasized that only statements directly from Mr. Lungu himself would be considered credible and official.

The former ruling PF doesn’t learn from its past mistakes, Events surrounding former President Michael Sata’s health in 2014 are similar. The PF kept his health status secret, hiding him from public view.

On May 25th, during the African Freedom Day celebrations, President Sata appeared frail, fueling speculations about his health. His absence at the official opening of Heroes Stadium further fueled rumours about his poor health.

The PF government was criticized and condemned for spreading misinformation regarding the President’s health.

PF mafias hid Mr. Sata from public including his vice president Guy Scott who never saw his friend for months. This is according to the former vice president Guy Scott in his hard-hitting political memoir “Adventure in Zambian Politics, A Story in Black & White”

Mr. Scott, a putative close friend of Sata, takes the reader inside the presidential bedroom where he found Mr. Sata was very sick and bedridden, and yet the nation, including himself as vice president, was not told.

“I plonked myself down in Micheal’s darkened bedroom and tried to tell him the truth,” writes Scott without holding back the details.
“As soon as it was clear that I wanted to discuss his condition, he was livid and demanded to know what my sources were,” Scott writes, adding that Mr. Sata had stopped attending meetings and other State functions due to sickness.

For six months, Mr. Sata never appeared in public. He only appeared during the official opening of Parliament, looking worn out, frail, and had lost weight, but the PF remained silent.

Zambians deserve the truth. Let’s pray for former President Edgar Lungu, who belongs to the nation, and not just the PF
