The United Party for National Development (UPND) has advised political opportunists and self-appointed spokespersons for former President Edgar Lungu to refrain from exploiting the situation surrounding his health.
Party Media Director Mark Simuuwe stated that the former President should receive medical care in peace and dignity, without being drawn into unfounded political narratives.
In a statement, Simuuwe emphasized that the party acknowledges and respects the statement issued by Tasila Lungu, the former President’s daughter, clarifying that her father has not made any public statement and will speak for himself when the time is right.
‘In light of Hon. Tasila Lungu’s position, the party categorically dismisses the contents of a purported post made by ECL’s alleged social media handlers.” Said Simuuwe.
Simuuwe noted that the individuals behind the post failed to seek clearance from the Lungu family, rendering their publication misleading and unofficial. Consequently, the alleged response to President Hakainde Hichilema on ECL’s page does not represent the views or words of former President Edgar Lungu.
He said the UPND Media Team will only consider statements delivered directly by President Lungu himself as credible and official, preferably in a physical appearance or video format where he speaks clearly.
He said until then, the team will await an official update from the Chief Government Spokesperson, Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa, who is expected to guide the nation with facts and clarity in due course.
