Zambia improves ties with World Bank – HH7

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says government has enhanced partnership between Zambia and the World Bank.

President HICHILEMA says when the UPND administration came into power; it had to change the negative perception that citizens had about the relationship between the Bank and the Country.

He says the country has been able to deal with the high cost of financing through the World Bank and is also able to negotiate which areas of priority to channel funds to, which had been lying idle.

President HICHILEMA said this when World Bank outgoing Regional Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa VICTORIA KWAKWA called on him at State House.

He expressed confidence about Zambia’s economic growth projections and that the drought that was experienced by the country has been an eye opener.

The Head of State said that lessons have been drawn from that experience to enable the country formulate better policies to deal with similar challenges in future.

President HICHILEMA also said that it is not acceptable for the country to depend on one energy source, hence the need to accelerate energy reforms.

And Ms. KWAKWA thanked President HICHILEMA for his leadership which she said is marked with professionalism and that matters have been handled in a constructive manner under his tenure.
