KABWE town has come to a standstill, with all roads leading to the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium, where President Hakainde Hichilema is scheduled to address the public

The stadium is packed with multitudes eager to hear the Head of State speak, a turnout likely fueled by this morning’s announcement that the government has employed 4,200 teachers to be deployed next term.

Sean Tembo, the Tonse Alliance publicity chairman, had claimed that President Hichilema has lost popularity in Kabwe, historically known as Broken Hill town.

However, Tembo’s assertion has been met with skepticism, given the mouthful opposition leader’s history of making false claims.

In fact, earlier in the day, Tembo had falsely alleged that the government had shut down learning institutions in the area so that students could  attend President Hichilema’s political rally.

Meanwhile, the situation remains calm, with no reports of violence. This is a marked departure from past incidents, where clashes perpetrated by the Patriotic Front often resulted in injuries and bloodshed, making for a chaotic scene.

Earlier in the day, President Hichilema commissioned the Bayer Itaba Seed Plant in Kabwe, Central Province.

Bayer’s 32-million-euro maize seed facility will produce high-yielding seeds, which will reach 6.4 million smallholder farmers in Zambia and other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa this year and up to 10 million by 2030.
