

Monze Police Traffic recorded a fatal road traffic accident today, March 15,2025, around 04:00 hours along the Great North Road at Simukali area, approximately 13 kilometers south of Monze town.
The accident involved a Mercedes Benz truck, registration number AJF 94 ZM, driven by Lecture Siakalima of Kalomo, whose age is unknown.
The truck was traveling from North to South when it collided with an oncoming vehicle. As a result of the impact, the driver sustained fractured legs and has been admitted to Monze Mission Hospital. The truck is extensively damaged.
Tragically, two unidentified juvenile passengers on board the truck sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Their bodies remain strapped in the truck at the scene of the accident.
Also involved was a Scania Marcopolo passenger bus, registration numbers BAF 483ZM and JD18XB GP (trailer), which was traveling from South to North.
The bus was being driven by Samuel Mweemba, aged 54, of Garden House, Lusaka. Due to the impact, the driver sustained general body pains, and the bus is extensively damaged.
Seventeen (17) passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident. Sadly, M/Otis Makuwa, aged 46, of Garden House, Lusaka, died on the spot after sustaining fatal injuries.
Eight ( unidentified passengers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Monze Mission Hospital, while another eight (
passengers sustained minor injuries and are also being attended to at the same hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the Scania Marcopolo bus was improperly overtaking an unidentified motor vehicle when he collided head-on with the oncoming Mercedes Benz truck.
NOTE: The damaged motor vehicles remain at the scene, and the road is partially blocked. Efforts are underway to clear the scene and restore the free flow of traffic.
