Indeni to operate service stations countrywide

GOVERNMENT plans to establish fuel service stations across the country through Indeni Energy in its continued efforts to diversify the petroleum sub sector.

Minister of Energy Makozo Chikote says Government also plans to establish a bio-ethanol refinery as a climate change adaptation measure.

Mr Chikote said this initiative will also provide opportunities for out-grower farmers producing biofuel crops such as sugar cane, cassava and sorghum.

“In 2022, the Government initiated a policy reform to transition Indeni from a refinery into an oil marketing company (OMC) to enable it to import and distribute refined petroleum products directly, ensuring a more reliable and cost-effective fuel supply chain,” he said.

Mr Chikote said a key milestone in this transition is the company’s participation in the TAZAMA pipeline open access system, which allows OMCs to transport low-sulphur gas oil from Dar es Salaam to Ndola.
