PATRIOTIC Front (PF) faction Information and Publicity Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba has allegedly fled the country and is seeking asylum in the United States of America (USA) to evade arrest.
Police have accused Mr Mwamba of attempting to manipulate the situation to justify his asylum request.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said authorities are aware of Mr Mwamba’s calculated efforts to exploit law enforcement responses for political gain. 
“The Zambia Police Service is fully aware of Mr Emmanuel Mwamba’s attempts to manipulate police actions regarding his social media postings as part of his strategy to secure political asylum in the United States,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said police operate within the law and have a constitutional mandate to arrest and prosecute anyone who commits an offence, regardless of political affiliation or status.
“Zambia, as a sovereign state, upholds laws that apply equally to all individuals. Any person who contravenes these laws will be arrested and subjected to due legal process. It is misleading and deceptive for Mr Mwamba to suggest that law enforcement actions are politically motivated.
The Zambia Police Service remains professional and impartial in executing its duties and will not be drawn into political theatrics aimed at undermining the rule of law,” he added.
Mr Hamoonga urged the public to disregard narratives suggesting that lawful police actions amount to persecution.
