Chililabombwe District Commissioner, Precious Njekwa, has described the cholera situation in the district as “pathetic,” warning that more cases are expected to be recorded as the outbreak spreads.
In the past 24 hours, the district has recorded nine new suspected cholera cases, bringing the total to 58.
Currently, 31 patients remain hospitalized, while 27 have been discharged.
Four lives have been lost since the outbreak about a week ago.
Ms. Njekwa revealed that authorities are working to establish a cholera treatment center at Kasumbalesa Health Post due to the high number of cases reported in the border area.
However, she expressed concern that some residents are keeping cholera patients at home instead of seeking medical care, exacerbating the crisis.
