A FISHING expedition in Mazabuka has turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when a younger brother watched helplessly as his elder brother drowned in a canal.
Panganani Ngoma had gone fishing in a canal with his 50 year old elder brother, Mabvuto Ngoma who decided to swim across to what he believed was a better fishing spot.
However, the canal’s swift current proved too strong for Mabvuto and dragged him under the water before he could even fish. 
Panganani, who despite being unable to swim tried to save his big brother but was overpowered by the canal’s rushing water and decided to watch in despair as his elder brother struggled and eventually disappeared beneath the surface.
According to Southern Province Police Deputy Commissioner Moono Namalongo, the deceased of P2 area in Mazabuka district met his demise on Friday Morning.
Police and Fire Brigade officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and began a search for the body.
However, as of the time of reporting, the search had not yielded any results, leaving the family in agony.
