Maamba pupil falls, dies while running to classroom

AN 18-year-old grade 12 pupil of Maamba High School in Southern Province has died after slipping and falling while running to class during yesterday’s heavy downpour.

According to a report filed by Felix Muyoba, the school’s headteacher, the deceased pupil finished having breakfast around 05:30 hours and returned to his dormitories to prepare for lessons.

But as classes were about to begin, Pardon Jalabani left the dormitory and hurried to his classroom around 06:45 hours.

Tragically, he slipped and fell face down as he approached the classroom door.

His colleague and fellow learner, Aston Miyanda, who witnessed the fall, rushed to assist Pardon but found him unresponsive and not breathing.

Aston rushed to inform the school management who promptly went to the scene only to find the young man still motionless.

The school reported the matter to Maamba Police Station, where officers inspected the body and opened an inquiry file.

Later, the body was taken to Maamba Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Southern Province Police Deputy Commissioner, Moono Namalongo, confirmed the incident.
