About 1.8 kilometers of the dual carriageway project from Mongu traffic circle to Kambule has been rehabilitated.
Road Development Agency (RDA) Western Region Provincial Road Engineer Paul Habasimbi says the road has been upgraded to a four-lane road with asphalt works completed and drainage works underway.
Mr. Habasimbi told ZNBC in an interview that the project is designed to accommodate increasing traffic and also fit into the Lobito Corridor.
He revealed that plans are underway to extend the road up to the toll gate with funds allocated in the 2025 annual plan.
Mr. Habasimbi said other road projects in the region, including the Tapo-Kalabo-Sikongo road to Angola, the Mwinilunga-Kasempa road, and the Kaoma-Kasempa road, will be constructed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project.
He said the Sesheke-Kazungula corridor project is also at the procurement stage.
Meanwhile, Mongu Mayor Nyambe Muyumbana has praised President Hakainde Hichilema’s government for road infrastructure developments in Mongu.
Mr. Muyumbana says Mongu town has a dual carriageway for the first time.
He said this is beneficial as the town now has more motorists on the road.
Mr. Muyumbana also noted other roads that have been rehabilitated, such as the Libonda and Nalolo roads.
