Luanshya youth launches petition to end gambling in Zambia

DALITSANI Ngulube, a passionate youth from Luanshya, has launched a national petition calling for the abolition of gambling in Zambia.

Driven by concern for the social and economic harm caused by gambling, Ngulube is rallying citizens across the country to join this movement and create a safer future for vulnerable communities.

The initiative aims to collect at least 1,000 signatures from Zambians, which will then be submitted to the government for consideration.

Ngulube hopes this collective action will highlight the urgent need to address the negative impacts of gambling, which include increased poverty, family breakdowns, and corruption.

“Gambling has devastating consequences on families and individuals. As a nation, we must take responsibility to protect our citizens from its harmful effects,” Ngulube said.

The youth is calling on Zambians to support the cause by signing the petition and advocating for a more responsible and caring society.

“This is about safeguarding our communities and ensuring a brighter future for all,” he added.

Recently, the county has reported several tragic incidents where individuals have taken their own lives due to gambling-related financial distress.

Not long ago, a father of five ended his life after losing money meant for his family business to gambling.

Similarly, a University of Zambia first-year student ended his life after losing money to betting.

And in a separate incident, a 32-year-old teacher from Lundazi, Eastern Province, hanged himself after accruing debts from betting activities with a popular sports betting company.
