Child advocacy groups have urged the Ministry of Community Development to prioritize strengthening families in the country and improving access to social services for children.
This follows the recent launch of guidelines which, among other things, include the ban on motorists giving alms or buying from street kids.
Save the Children Country Director, Jo Musonda, Child Activist, Bellion Chola, and SOS Children’s Village Zambia Chairperson, Rabecca Chipoya, have commended the ministry for the initiative.
They stress that the guidelines, combined with family support systems and social services, could significantly reduce the number of children on the streets. The groups have pledged to work with the government to ensure the successful implementation of the new measures.
